Following on from the recent post 'Ascot - Whats a Gal to do?' I failed to mention one of the most notable dates for any girls summer diary….that being the festival.
Be it Vfest, Glasto, or Reading & Leeds (to name but a few) the summer festival has acquired a name for itself. Moving away from that “boho” status, today’s festival is dubbed a fashion catwalk in its own right. You only have to look at Kate Moss donning her Hunter Wellies in 2006 to see that the festival look has taken a complete U-turn since.
So what’s a girl to do? The conundrum stands that you need to look stylish but effortless and practical but cool. So, in light of this I’ve put together my top festival tips:
1. Hats. Gone is the chance to straighten your hair and spend hours in front of the mirror. A nightmare, unless you come armed with a hat or accessory which will shade your locks come day 2. Braided Siren Sun Hat
2. Shoes. No sky heels girls, actually no heels at all. Flats are the way to go, whether it is some pretty flip flops or a stylish wellie. Havaiana Issa in Black
3. Wrap up. You know the British weather can be unpredictable. A small cover up is perfect as it fits in your bag, but equally looks stylish. Darling Libby Cardigan in Taupe
4. Bags. The festival essential. You need something of decent proportion but something that equally shouts ‘laid back'. Lupo Abanico Masai Stitch Pleated Handbag in Brown
5. Funky Jewellery. You might need some colourful jewellery to draw attention away from those muddy wellies! ChloBo Summer Love 15 mm Red Bead Bracelet with Peace Sign
So there you have it, my festival style tips! And as for those little extras, don’t forget your hand sanitiser, pocket tissues, sunblock and shades. Oh yes, and your mobile phone charger…most festivals now have emergency charge up booths, so you can always stay in touch with your festival party!
Enjoy!

Ascot - What's a Gal to do?
Summer is that one time of year where a gal feels that ever growing pressure to look well, fabulous. It’s when you expose the pins that have been covered up all winter, the feet that have been hidden by Uggs and the arms wrapped up in knits. AND if that wasn’t enough to worry about, there are those ‘key’ summer occasions...the pool and garden parties, and of course the beach.
BUT one occasion where I’ve breathed one big sigh of relief for this year is Ladies Day at Ascot.
Admittedly, last year it put me into a spin. I spent weeks, actually months scouring the high street for that ‘perfect dress’. As let’s face this is one day where you have to look preened, polished and perfect! From the dress, to the shoes to that ever important hat, this is one occasion you cannot afford to get wrong.
So, learning from experience I have defined my key ‘Ascot Dress Criteria’:
1. Don’t go for ‘that’ short dress – its unsophisticated, un-classy and will ‘undo’ your day before it has started as the officials won’t stand for it! Go for something around the knee: Forever Unique Susie Dress
2. Simple jewellery – “bling isn’t the optimum word here. Think Kate Middleton not Katie Price and you will be bang on trend and look elegant: ChloBo Small Ball Bracelet with Dream Ball Charm
3. Have something that will take the chill off – of course the weather WILL be fabulous, but you never know…just in case: Darling Lillian Cardigan in Taupe
4. Avoid sky high heels – they will pitch you to the grass, and I can almost guarantee you won’t last the day in them. Try something like this: Beyond Skin Stella Heel in Red Suede
I’ll close with saying…enjoy! It’s one of those occasions were you can’t help but get swept up in the ‘hoi paloi’ and what is one of those great British catwalk occasions!
